Updated and Revised Edition! There's A Boy In Here provides an insightful view from inside the mind of a person with autism.
This dual autobiography is written in point-counterpoint style by Sean Barron and his mother, Judy. Together, they chronicle his young life and the effects of autism on him and his family. The book offers a unique format where Judy shares her perspective on events, followed immediately by Sean's own internal experience of those same moments.
As a young person, Sean was confrontational, isolated, and unhappy. Baffled about how to interact with others, he felt "like an alien from outer space." This book documents his emergence from the bonds of autism to become a public speaker, journalist, and maintain close family relationships.
Today, Sean Barron is a graduate of Youngstown State University and works as a reporter for the Youngstown Vindicator. He has progressed to the point that it is difficult to realize he was once truly impacted by autism/Asperger's Syndrome. Sean lives independently, maintains a strong relationship with his girlfriend, and recently co-authored Unwritten Rules of Social Relationships with Dr. Temple Grandin.
This memoir shows what happened from Judy's point of view as a mother navigating the challenges of raising a child with autism, then immediately reveals what Sean himself was experiencing internally. This dual narrative format has won many accolades for offering unique perspectives of two people who look at the same world but see and feel entirely different things.
Judy Barron is a lyricist and writer who divides her time between writing children's songs and books, and painting floor cloths and faux finishes. She lives in Poland, Ohio.
