**This is a special edition of THE BAND with artwork drawn by my lovely wife Juliana**
A cover band in Appalachia. A valley covered in fog.
After a couple months touring with the band, I knew the end was coming. It wasn't hard to see. Although I was falling in love with Kate, the band kept running into bad situations. We stayed with strangers and played shows in strange places. Every so often, we found ourselves in a bad spot, but nothing compared to Oakville.
It was a beautiful town on the New River Gorge, and it would be the last show we ever played. We didn't know at the time, but Oakville was the last stop. For some of us, it would be the end. Some of us would never go home.
I did it for Kate. I stuck around for Kate. But quickly I realized, we were both in grave danger.
I never thought we'd run into a psychopath. I never thought she'd try to keep us for her own.
We decided to stick around and rent a house from an old lady outside of town. We stayed in her basement for cheap. But some of us would never leave again. The signs were everywhere: First, little things - a creaking noise from the stairs. A scratching in the walls. Then people started to go missing. A stranger from Oakville began to follow us around. And Johnny, our lead singer, he was always starting fights, biting off more than he could chew. I hoped when he fell, he wouldn't take us down with him.
Even I didn't realize just how bad he'd gotten or how much trouble we were stepping into.
