Elderly, elitist film professor Mort Rifkin (Wallace Shawn) made a grudging pilgrimage with his press agent wife Sue (Gina Gershon) to the San Sebastian Film Festival, where the entry by her director client Philippe (Louis Garrel) was getting undeserved buzz. He'd find distraction from Sue and Philippe's mutual attraction through the attentions of beautiful doctor Jo (Elena Anaya).
