What happens when the place you love begins to vanish before your eyes?

In this powerful collection of thirteen essays, When Home Hurts gives language to the aching grief of watching our homes-both literal and symbolic-erode due to climate change, gentrification, displacement, and time itself. Rooted in the emotional terrain of solastalgia-a profound homesickness felt not for what is gone, but for what is actively disappearing-this anthology explores the deep connections between memory, identity, and place.

These essays act as sensory maps of a changing world. From flooded coastlines and fire-scarred forests to the fading echoes of once-familiar neighborhoods, writers across the globe offer intimate portraits of environmental loss and cultural erasure. Yet through their grief, they also bear witness to resilience, beauty, and the stubborn persistence of love for home.
