Hayden White is Professor of History of Consciousness, University of California, Santa Cruz and author of The Content of Form: Narrative Discourse and Historical Representation, Tropics of Discourse: Essays in Cultural Criticism, and Metahistory: The Historical Imagination in Nineteenth-Century Europe.
