French filmmaker Patrice Chéreau's first English-language effort stars Mark Rylance as Jay, a lonely nightclub worker who meets once a week for steamy sex with aspiring actress Claire (Kerry Fox). Jay follows Claire home one night, discovers she's married to cab driver Andy (Timothy Spall), and strikes up a friendship with him, eventually divulging the intimate details of the anonymous affair with the cabbie's wife.
