Description
The wranglers are taking a cattle drive to Kansas City, experience difficulties and eventually deliver the cattle to the stockyards. After relaxing, they do what all the cowboys were doing, blowing off steam, looking for fun, ready for companionship, and a good drink. The two main characters, Micah and Manny find the bar, and ultimately, Micah joins a poker game after seeing cheating. There he stops the cheating and meets a man looking like a city slicker. But the new contact leads Micah to consider purchasing land as an investment.
Micah and Manny have unexpectedly made contact with a man with a long history in the West. They don't recognize the name Stannis Hopefield, but join with him in a new partnership of investing and then travel to Micah's home. Challenges come to the three soon after, based on the cheater wanting revenge.
But the story turns much more violent. Love beckons for one of the men, danger for another and a return to previous activities for the third. They face the challenges together and then separately, adding another person to their activities.
This fourth book featuring Hopefield is a continuation of the previous three. While each book stands on its own, there is a continuing theme of friendship and the brutality in the old west of the late nineteenth century. The characters continue into the subsequent books, leading to more adventures, acceptance of life's ups and downs, finding love, defending those needing it and pursuing those who break the law.
