The performances in Vienna in April 2005 Donizetti's Elisir d'Amore was a sensation due to the cast, bringing together Rolando Villazón and Anna Netrebko in the title roles. Rolando Villazón encored "Una furtive lagrima". The DVD highlights not only Rolando Villazón as the great tenor he is becoming, but also allows one to see the full extent of his talents both as a singer and an actor. It also introduces on Virgin Classics the Russian soprano Anna Netrebko, with whom Rolando often performs on stages around the world. The production, by Otto Schenk, although traditional in character, carries the story with charm and wit, and has been the setting for many a great singer on the Vienna opera stage.
