Calvin Poole III learned to read music and took piano lessons. But he realized that if he simply learned how to play the basic chords (as you would if you were playing the guitar), you would be able to play just about any song you wanted without having to have the sheet music. Poole has played in several bands with local friends and with his brother. He even had the privilege of performing at the Georgiana, Alabama, Theater on the same stage that Hank Williams Sr. performed on. He has authored a few songs that you never heard of, including "Hog Meat and Whiskey" and "Leroy's Old Guitar."
