Conner Matkins had just survived a near-death encounter with a creature beyond anything he'd ever seen. When his old friend Benny, now a detective, crashes back into his life just to save it from what she calls "Dopplers," doppelgangers whom Benny has been chasing secretly for years. Having rushed back home with Benny, Conner knows for a fact his wife has been taken, but Benny is none the wiser. The next step should be simple. It's just that Conner hasn't heard his daughter laugh this much in years...
