Adam Hattersley has always believed in service: service to country, service to others, service to community. But he honestly never expected that his desire to serve would lead him to politics. So, when approached to run for a seat in the Florida House of Representatives, he was surprised and didn't even know how to get on the ballot, much less how to find the money to win a race that had gone for the other party the previous two decades.
Some of what led to his being asked to run was that he spent eight years as a nuclear submarine officer in the United States Navy, had volunteered for an Army deployment during the height of the Iraq War, and received a Bronze Star in the process. In addition, he was personable, smart, dedicated, and caring. In other words, he had potential.
In his break-out book, Adam shares the hazards, lessons, and surprises he, his wife, and his campaign team experienced while running for a legislative office that he was most definitely not predicted to win.

About the AuthorHattersley, Adam: - Adam Hattersley earned B.S.E. and M.S.E. degrees in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan, and spent eight years as a nuclear submarine officer in the United States Navy. In honor of his father who volunteered for a tour in Vietnam while in the Army, Adam volunteered during the height of the Iraq War and was deployed on the ground with a U.S. Army unit, receiving the Bronze Star for his service. Adam completed his Navy service as an electrical engineering instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. He then moved to Riverview, Florida in 2009 where he worked for a Fortune 500 company for seven years relying on his data-driven background to lead a team responsible for training and managing hundreds of skilled technicians all over the world. In 2016, Adam and his wife, Christie, opened a promotions business helping other small businesses market themselves. In 2018, after more than a decade as a registered independent voter, Adam sought and won a seat in the Florida Legislature as a Democrat. Focusing on issues that matter to people across our community, Adam served in the Florida House of Representatives where he fought to lower health care costs, honor the service that veterans have made to our country and protect public education. He is a member of the Selective Service Board, and is an internationally certified judge for Men's Gymnastics. He has represented the United States at competitions and events on four continents.
