Springfield, Tennessee Bicentennial City History

This is a social, cultural, economic, and political bicentennial history of Springfield, the county seat of Robertson County, Tennessee. The authors trace the history of Springfield from it's beginning in the late 1700's to the present. Major issues covered are the daily lives of ordinary citizens, the growth of the whiskey and tobacco industry, and the coming of northern industry in the 20th century. The authors also cover the influence of state and national issues on the people of Springfield. Some of these topics are the Civil War, Spanish American War, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, the Great Depression, weather, health issues, epidemics, etc. The book also includes numerous pictures from each era of the city's history. About the Author
Gregory, Rick S.: - Rick Gregory was born in Springfield, Tennessee on August 19, 1950. He received his B.A. from the University of Indianapolis and an M.A. and Ph.D. in American History from Vanderbilt University. He and his wife, Patti Cohea Gregory, live on a farm next to the Red River in Adams, Tennessee. They have two daughters, Suzanne and Caroline, and two grandchildren, Hailey and Jameson. His is semi-retired and spends his free time researching and writing history and kayaking the Red River and its tributaries.
