Author Sheilah Pemberton reveals a life of unimaginable pain and uplifting recovery in her debut, three-part memoir. From her life at an orphanage to escaping her abusive relationship, she illustrates the strength of her unbroken spirit.

As one of only three Black children at the Mount St. Franics orphanage, Sheilah and her siblings were fair game for abuse and taunts from the Sisters of Mercy-and even some peers. Unfortunately, terror became the norm and followed Sheilah throughout her life.

After moving to another orphanage (​​St. Aloysius Orphanage), the siblings discovered their sister and mother passed away-bringing about a heartbreaking time for all three siblings. While family was present at each funeral, no one volunteered to take the siblings and Sheilah's life returned to hard work and discipline ​​at St. Aloysius.

God is stronger than pain, though, and Sheilah's life is a testament to the fortitude one person can have-and the horrors they can endure-with God's unconditional love at their back, supporting and sustaining them.
