The Moon Maid is Edgar Rice Burroughs' sweeping planetary romance of future Earth, lunar civilizations, and dynastic destiny across generations.
Set in a distant future, the novel begins as Julian the Fifth, heir to a long military lineage, is launched into space and captured by a hidden civilization beneath the surface of the Moon. There he encounters strange subterranean races, advanced technologies, and the enigmatic Moon Maid herself. The narrative then expands across centuries, tracing a hereditary saga of rebellion, conquest, and the eventual liberation of Earth from oppressive rule.
Blending speculative science fiction with high adventure and romantic heroism, Burroughs crafts a tale that moves beyond a single protagonist into a generational epic. Like his Barsoom and Tarzan novels, The Moon Maid combines imaginative world-building with relentless pacing, exotic settings, and larger-than-life conflict. Beneath the action lies a meditation on tyranny, freedom, and the recurring struggle for civilization's survival.
A cornerstone of early twentieth-century planetary romance, this edition restores Burroughs' imaginative lunar epic for modern readers of classic science fiction and pulp adventure.
