Vance "Chief" Sterling didn't just join the Global Vanguard; he used it to escape a chaotic, unmapped youth. Rising through the ranks to become a Tier-7 Leader, Vance begins to see the world through "The Grid"-a mental overlay of statistics and structural weak points. As he transitions from a frontline technician to a specialized Systems Integration Officer, he discovers a terrifying truth: the world is governed by hidden Logic Gates.
To survive the corruption within the Vanguard, Vance begins coding the first version of "The Bastion"-a mental sanctuary where he builds indestructible cities in his mind. But as his fourteen-year service approaches its end, the transition to the "Civilian Sector" becomes his most dangerous mission yet. Vance must lay an iron foundation for his family before the chaos of his past breaches the perimeter of his new life.
