Some Short Stories by Lord Dunsany (Fantasy and Horror Classics) - Paperback

From the visionary mind of Lord Dunsany, the Irish peer whose lyrical, fantastical prose inspired generations of fantasy and horror writers, comes this essential collection of diverse short stories.

Some Short Stories by Lord Dunsany showcases his genius for blending high fantasy, subtle horror, and whimsical satire. Dunsany's work builds vast, mythic landscapes and then turns his unique vision on human absurdity.

Tales where the mundane meets the magical and the fantastical exposes the heart of man:

• The Magician: Explore the power and peril of true magic and the limits of human curiosity.

• The Crock of Gold / The End of the Rainbow: Glimpse the whimsical side of Irish folklore and the disillusionment that comes with seeking mythical treasure.

• A Day in the Bog / An Unlikely Haul: Simple settings become stages for unexpected fantasy and adventurous encounters.

• How Jembu Played for Cambridge: A delightful example of Dunsany's unique satirical humor, contrasting exotic fantasy with staid British tradition.

• The Bureau d'Echange de Maux: A brilliant piece of whimsical social commentary about a place where troubles can be traded, exploring the nature of human suffering.

This collection combines stories from Dunsany's varied career, demonstrating his mastery across different genres, from his early fantastical world-building to his later, more satirical works.

This volume is a must-read for fans of classic fantasy, mythic horror, and literary writing that helped lay the groundwork for modern speculative fiction.
