Lorgi, the child snow dragon, is restless after returning home and seeks adventure. At the annual Winter Gathering of the Alukois (snowdragons), he dares to argue with the Council of Elders. They assure him all the dreaded tier dragons are finally gone. Yet in his gut, Lorgi knows the four offspring of the Tierdragon of Monz grow stronger every day and will terrorize all the Castled Lands unless he can stop them.
Unheard of for the Alukois, Lorgi decides to adopt the orphan Yómgolin, an amiable but average adolescent, as his big brother. To help Yómgolin succeed in his coming of age quest, Lorgi insists on tagging along. What begins as a simple, if arduous journey to deliver prized maps suddenly becomes a life-and-death quest for the brothers when a tierdragon steals their cargo.
