Hanan Kattan is Palestinian, from Bethlehem and Jerusalem. An award-winning producer whose films have garnered more than 50 accolades, she has long fought to bring Palestinian stories to screen without stereotypes.
October 2023 felt like a match re-igniting a battle for justice that had been relegated to the backburner. She had to do something.
Her initial contribution was The Enlightenment Podcast-a platform for pro-Palestinian voices. Beginning with stories of her Nakba-survivor mother and her family's experiences in the West Bank, the podcast soon attracted extraordinary guests: best-selling novelist Susan Abulhawa, activist Ahed Tamimi, genocide experts Raz Segal and Omer Bartov, historian Avi Schlaim, and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Annemarie Jacir.
As she listened, learned, read, and researched, Hanan began looking past the propaganda to uncover how Palestine lost its freedom-and why. The true story proved stranger than fiction.
Palestine Revealed is that story.
Hanan is not a historian or journalist. She is a filmmaker, podcaster, and Palestinian whose family has lived experience of life under occupation. The book is thoroughly researched and cited. Her hope is that it reveals the lies sold by governments and media-and illuminates the truth about Palestine: the honour, integrity, and steadfastness of a people who have suffered immensely yet retain the best of what it means to be human.
The world has woken up. Gaza has crystallised a truth: the institutions claiming to defend freedom were always about suppressing it.
