Meet Detective Kate Jameson, the daughter of city councilor and a much-decorated officer who was killed in the line of duty two years previous. With the fight for justice deeply rooted in her, Kate's only desire is to be a good cop like her father. She's determined to make her mark on the prestigious homicide team. But things go horribly awry when she breaks the number one rule of policing: never leave your gun unattended. When Kate finds her police vehicle broken into and her firearm stolen, she, at the urging of a senior officer, makes the agonizing choice not to report it- and gets her partner killed. Haunted by her fatal mistake, a driven Kate will seek to make amends through every case, including that of a mysterious killer who seems particularly invested in her.
