As an old-school traveling carnival makes it's coast-to-coast journey in search of those remaining few across an evolving Brazil who still crave their brand of entertainment, the small troupe's charismatic barker/magician (José Wilker) and cooch dancer (Betty Faria) have to deal with a starstruck young accordionist (Fábio, Jr.) who seeks to tag along with his pregnant wife (Zaira Zambelli).
