With Valerie's help, Vance progresses in his training and hones his new skills, all while navigating the political landscape and trying to prevent the Mori attack.

But if Vance doesn't keep up with his training, he could be disqualified. And with the Mori fleet on the way, his own insecurities threatening his relationship with Valerie, an overly-strict instructor that thinks Vance isn't worthy to be one of them, a dangerous ion storm approaching, his mentor getting kidnapped, and a possible traitor in their midst, training is the least of his worries...
