Ford's directorial acumen, with the help of stunning Technicolor photography make this 1948 version the best screen adaptation of Kyne's novel. This special release also contains M-G-M's 1936 film of the story, directed by Richard Boleslavski and starring Chester Morris and Lewis Stone.
