Rags, Tichenor comments, "retain strong ties to the country"-maintaining notably Midwestern and southern roots-and are characteristically endowed with folk strains "ebullient" or "ribald," "wistful" or "bittersweet." Tichenor's originals include "Wine Room Rag" and "Hickory-Smoked Rag," but this recording also features pieces from contemporaries Charles Hunter, Robert Hoffman and Percy Wenrich.
