The bogeyman is real.

In a tunnel deep beneath an Alaskan mountain, a man is brutally murdered.

The assignment, far from his native Louisiana, might be just what Decker needs to put the past behind him. But as the bodies mount, and the town grows frantic, Decker realizes that whatever is on the loose is no mere superstition. The bogeyman is real, and it's up to him to stop it.

Cold Sanctuary is part of the John Decker series of novels, however, each book is a standalone story and does not require you to have read the other books in the series.

I have not read the first book in the series (but I will now), while this is a stand-alone story for the most part it does give away spoilers to the first book so in hindsight, I would suggest reading in order. I enjoyed this book because it had copious amounts of tension and suspense but without the need for graphic violence or extreme profanity/ foul language. The writing was clever the plot good and you could relate to all the characters, the good the bad and the ugly. The lead character was strong while flawed which made him all the more believable.
