Yellowstone. It is a grand historic location and, when paired with historic quotations, it takes on a whole new meaning. Its unique grandeur was clear from the first time it was seen by the eyes of settler-era explorers and trappers-it was beyond belief.

Key to the Yellowstone story is the great care of the early founders took to preserve the natural beauty of the park and manage it for future generations to enjoy and appreciate. When President Teddy Roosevelt dedicated the Roosevelt Arch in Gardiner, Montana and read the words inscribed in the arch-"For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People"-that ethic has continued.

Yellowstone: Historical Locations/Historic Quotations enables readers to appreciate the raw scenic beauty of the park, while at the same time gaining a sense of what other historians, founders, managers, keepers, and leaders felt about the exact spot while viewing the same scene.
