Combining explications of William Faulkner's novels and short stories with thematic analysis, Hyatt H. Hyatt H. Waggoner, professor of American literature at Brown University, is the author of The Heel of Elohim: Science and Values in Modern American Poetry (1950); Hawthorne: A Critical Study, which was selected in 1955 for the annual Explicator Prize; and numerous articles which show his concern with the most significant trends in American literature.
