Cooling his heels in federal prison, Arkansas moonshiner "Gator" McKlusky (Burt Reynolds) is offered his freedom if he rolls over and helps catch the remainder of his ring. Gator's got an ulterior motive for taking the deal, though, as he heads after the corrupt sheriff (Ned Beatty) who gunned down his activist kid brother.
