Produced by Norman Granz, 'King of the Tenors' is the result of two sessions, both of which feature Ben Webster with musicians who were part of Jazz at the Philharmonic touring entourage at the time. While one of the sessions has Webster sharing the front line with Benny Carter and Harry "Sweets" Edison, the other presents Webster as the sole horn backed by the Oscar Peterson Trio.
