At the heart of the book is the Sovereign Hive: an original relational framework developed by practitioner-researcher Mary B. Herron, alongside concepts including Mars Gravity, the Abditory, the Mars Zone of Proximal Development, and the Tutor-in-the-Loop (TITL). These ideas did not arrive from theory first. They were gifted, in part, by the students themselves; the word Abditory came from a student named Meloney, and Mars Gravity was first spoken aloud by a student named Geri, in a conversation that became the foundation of an entire research program.

This is also a book about artificial intelligence in education, written from lived classroom experience rather than policy speculation. It asks what AI can responsibly do in a Further Education setting, and what must always remain human.
