C.C. Robin arrived in America at the turn of the nineteenth century and documented his travels in a three-volume log of the West Indies, Pensacola, and Louisiana. Mr. Robin was a scientist and writer, but much about his life is shrouded in mystery. The remarkable memoir Voyage to Louisiana, 1803-1805 is now available for the first time translated from its original French into English. The story recounts Robin's adventures through New Orleans and Pensacola and the Attakapas and Ouachita country. He vividly describes the distinctive lifestyle and customs of the Louisiana Acadians and the New Orleans Creoles and provides a rare, tantalizing glimpse into the history of Colonial Louisiana. Very little is known of the author who signed the book C.C. Robin, though it is possible to retrieve information about his life from his biographical account. He was a widower, and he came to America with his only son, who died of yellow fever after their arrival. He appears to have a background in science and natural history. Yet much is conjecture; C.C. Robin's identity has not yet been pinpointed.
