Borta Men Inte Glömd - Malmös Maritima Arv

Gone but not forgotten - Malmö's Maritime Legacy

Already in the 14th century, Malmö's strategic location by the resund Strait contributed to the city's strong growth as a significant trade and maritime hub. The founding of Kockums Mekaniska Verkstad in 1840 marked the city's emergence as a manufacturing center. At Kockums, everything from consumer goods and agri- cultural tools to railway carriages, large cargo ships, and military vessels, including the world's first nuclear-powered icebreaker, was produced.

The oil crisis of the 1970s led to an industrial decline, which eventually spurred Malmö's transformation, driven by significant infrastructure projects such as the City Tunnel and the resund Bridge between Sweden and Denmark - as well as the Västra Hamnen neighborhood, the Turning Torso skyscraper, Malmö University, and the Hyllie district.

The photographs in this book visualize some of the last relics and ruins of Malmö's once proud industrial history, which have given way to a new, bright future.
