Trainstop: A Wordless Adventure by Barbara Lehman
A ride on the train is exciting. There's always something new to see, even if you've been there before. But some train rides are better than others...
What if a train took you somewhere else entirely? What if the doors opened in a strange, new place? This is one train stop you won't want to miss!
Wordless Storytelling Through Illustrations
This hardcover picture book tells its story entirely through illustrations, making it perfect for developing visual literacy skills in young readers. Without words to guide them, children aged 4-8 can interpret the narrative in their own way, encouraging imagination and creative thinking. Each page reveals new details that invite multiple readings and discussions.
From a Caldecott Honor Author
Barbara Lehman earned the prestigious Caldecott Honor in 2005 for The Red Book, demonstrating her mastery of visual storytelling. Her ability to convey complex narratives without text has made her a standout in children's literature. Lehman's background in communication design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn shines through in every carefully composed illustration.
Perfect for Independent and Shared Reading
This book works beautifully for both independent reading sessions and interactive read-aloud experiences. Young readers can explore the story on their own, building confidence in their interpretation skills. Parents and educators can use it to spark conversations about what might be happening on each page, making every reading unique.
A Magical Train Journey
The story follows an unexpected journey where ordinary train travel transforms into something extraordinary. The magic realism elements blend everyday experiences with fantastical possibilities, capturing the wonder children feel about transportation and exploration. It's an adventure that celebrates curiosity and the unexpected.
Barbara Lehman has illustrated many books for children, including The Red Book, which was awarded the Caldecott Honor in 2005. Born in Chicago, Barbara attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, where she earned a BFA in communication design. A full-time illustrator, Barbara says, "Books and art have always held the strongest attraction for me. I have always felt drawn to 'commercial art' because of its ability to reach many people. I like the idea of being part of the media in a meaningful and thoughtful way, especially with children as the audience." She lives in the Hudson Valley in upstate New York.
