The Village Voice has observed a growing gap between the way our generation was raised and the way many children are being raised today. As a mentor and community observer, I have witnessed how modern parenting is increasingly influenced by technology. Children today are surrounded by information through smartphones, tablets, television, and the internet. While access to information is valuable, it often comes at the expense of the personal guidance, storytelling, and moral formation that once shaped character and community values.

Growing up, our parents and elders were our first teachers. Evenings were often spent gathered together as families, listening to stories that carried lessons about respect, responsibility, courage, honesty, and community. These stories were more than entertainment; they were tools for shaping our identity and behaviour. Our mothers and fathers used wisdom, proverbs, and sometimes harmless warnings to guide us. I remember being told not to sit on a grinding stone because it would cause a terrible illness. Whether the warning was literally true or not, its purpose was clear-it was a way of teaching discipline, respect, and obedience.

Those lessons helped build strong character and a sense of belonging. We learned that our actions affected others, that elders deserved respect, and that every member of the community had a role to play. Today, many children receive information from screens but less formation from meaningful relationships and community mentorship.

The Village Voice was born from a desire to bridge this gap. It seeks to preserve the wisdom of traditional communities while showing how these timeless values can be applied in a modern world. The book is not a rejection of technology or progress. Rather, it is a call to balance innovation with the enduring principles that have guided generations: leadership through service, community responsibility, moral discipline, mentorship, respect for elders, and the nurturing role of family.

Through stories, reflections, cultural insights, and practical guidance, this book invites readers to rediscover the values that once held communities together and to consider how those values can help address many of today's social challenges.

My hope is that The Village Voice will inspire parents, educators, leaders, and young people to embrace both knowledge and wisdom, information and formation, progress and tradition. While the world continues to change, the human need for guidance, belonging, and moral direction remains the same.

The village may have changed, but its voice still matters, discipline, and community from those village days still matter deeply.
