A Children's Adventure Book

Aspiring actor, 10-year-old Adrian, travels by ship across the Atlantic Ocean from England to Canada. Unbeknownst to him hiding in his luggage is a mouse he named Tiddlywinks who also wants to act.( Without food, attacked by dangerous rats, Tiddlywinks barely survives the trip.)

Against his father's wishes Adrian secretly auditions for a part in Richard III at the Stratford Shakespearean Festival Theatre. Poor Tiddlywinks becomes trapped in a shoebox, then lost backstage he encounters a troupe of mice producing Shakespeare's play The Tempest.

Step onstage and join them as they chase their dreams.

The audio book is brilliantly brought to life by the distinguished Canadian director and actor, Michael Bawtree.

Ages 7 - 12
Schools use this book to entertain and teach their young students about acting, auditions and Shakespearean plays.

"What started out as a fun bedtime story for his children author John S. Hayes, an original member of the Stratford Shakespearean Festival skillfully based his characters on the personalities of the real directors, actors, and designers he worked with in the very early days of Canada's renowned theatre."

A ten-year-old child's review:
"I loved this book because it kept me interested throughout the entire story... The story was set mainly set in Stratford, and that's cool because it's my home town... I enjoyed how the two main characters (Adrian and Tiddlywinks) followed the same story line, but from different points of view. Another thing I enjoyed about it was how Adrian kept on trying to reach his goal, even though people kept on telling him he shouldn't act. I really loved this book and I think you would too"

John Sullivan Hayes was born in London, England on September 1, 1919, to British stage and screen actor George Hayes and Canadian sculptress Margaret Scobie Hayes. Following in his father's footsteps John pursued a career working as an actor, stage manager and theatrical producer in England, the United States and Canada. In 1953 Tyrone Guthrie invited John to help launch the Stratford Shakespearean Festival in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. He and his wife, JoAnn Elliott, moved from her family's ranch in Texas to Canada, where they both worked at the Stratford Festival in its first season. From that date forward John was instrumental in planning and organizing 27 consecutive seasons. Even after he tried to retire in 1979, he was asked to return to help the theatre so often that his retirement became merely a six-month sabbatical. Without his astute behind-the-scenes negotiations, the Stratford Festival might not have survived its early years. A member of the Festival Theatre board from 1983 until his death on July 5, 1993, John contributed to the Stratford Festival for 40 years. Originally named in his honour the John Sullivan Hayes Training Programme for Theatre Training is now called the Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. John Sullivan Hayes was also a passionate collector of children's literature. His superb collection of 6000 antiquarian children's books was donated by his children to the Osborne and Lillian H. Smith Collection in the Toronto Public Library. "The Stratford Adventure of Adrian and Tiddlywinks" is his first and only children's book.
