Therese de Lisieux was born Marie-Françoise-Therese Martin on 2 January 1873. She died when she was just 24 years old on 30 September 1897, after having lived as a cloistered Carmelite for less than ten years. Saint Therese of Lisieux or Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, was canonised and recognised as a Doctor of the Church, one of only three women to receive that honour.
