In the year 1834, less than 20 years after the end of the war of 1812, a tender nation was struck with a plague of diseased and crazed humans.
Working with methods and instruments of war and medicine, considered crude by todays standards, a small band of heroes must contain, understand, and defeat this threat that could overwhelm the nation. . . and the world.
In the frontier town of Chicago, Doctor Deggory Perriwinkle with his friend and colleague Howakan, a Native American medicine man, were working to find a cure for tuberculosis. They inadvertently created an epidemic causing those infected to become little more than crazed and ravenous animals.
The affliction was spreading at an alarming rate. Sergeant Chambers, his wife Sophie, Nektosha, a Native American lad, and John the Trapper are thrown together in the first attacks, and are pushed to the forefront of the conflict.
In a time of horses and steamships, will they be able to find a way to turn the tide to save the nation, and the people.
