Dorothy Bruce has been involved with the restoration of a Victorian pier, the running of an annual festival, curating an exhibition, organisation of a one-off literary award and a multi-agency destination development project. An interest in politics was part of her family life, as politics in Scotland during her lifetime has rarely been dull, often strident, a rollercoaster of celebration and drowned sorrows that pulled people into enthusiastic for or against camps. So, not surprisingly, she has occasionally been drawn into active involvement. She finds the manipulative world of politics fascinating as well as appaling, especially the effect it can have on people, and in her writing creates stories of people who found themselves overtaken by events, often forced into actions, or making decisions they never expected to make.
