Zeke Carter is an ex-cop who quit the force because of the corruption and what it was turning him into. He now lives in quiet exile-haunted by the case that broke him and the corruption that stole his faith in justice. But when a desperate young woman named Lila appears at his door, clutching a faded photograph and a trembling voice, the past comes calling again.
Her brother has vanished without a trace. The police wrote him off as another runaway. Lila knows better-and she's willing to risk everything to bring him home. Against his better judgment, Zeke takes the case, driven by something deeper than duty: a faint echo of the faith he once had, and the nagging voice that refuses to let him rest while the lost remain unfound.
The trail leads Zeke into a world of hidden crimes and broken souls-where victims are bought and sold, and mercy is in short supply. Each clue draws him closer not only to Lila's brother, but to a network of power and deceit that stretches far beyond one missing man. As Zeke digs deeper, old enemies resurface, and new devils make themselves known.
Haunted by guilt and bound by conscience, Zeke must decide whether redemption is worth the cost. To save one life, he'll have to confront the wreckage of his own. And this time, failure isn't an option-because for Lila's brother, the clock is running out.
The Salvager: A Sister's Plea launches a gripping new faith-infused suspense series where justice is never simple, truth cuts deep, and salvation often comes through the darkest roads.
Jack Baptiste is the pen name used by Robert Suter, a lifelong storyteller with a sharp eye for human nature, hidden motives, and the quiet forces that shape lives from the shadows. Drawing inspiration from real-world events, news headlines, and decades of observing people at their best and worst, Souter crafts suspense-driven stories grounded in realism rather than spectacle.
The Salvager series reflects his belief that the most dangerous threats are not always obvious - and that truth, once uncovered, often comes at a cost. Writing under the Jack Baptiste name allows him to explore darker themes of power, secrecy, and moral consequence while keeping the focus squarely on story and character.
When not writing, Suter continues to observe, question, and imagine the unseen connections that link one life to another - because every story, like every secret, leaves a trace.
