KARL CORDELL is Senior Lecturer in Politics at the University of Plymouth, Great Britain. He obtained his doctorate in 1988 on completion of research into the 'Origins of Development and Deutschlandpolitik, 1969-74'. He subsequently published on the nature and content of relations between the two German states, the nature of Die Wende in the GDR and the process of unification. In more recent years he has published extensively on matters connected with Poland's German minority, German-Polish relations, and the impact of both upon Poland's desire to become a member of the European Union.
