About the Authors
Dr. Morton Botel held the William T. Carter Research Chair as Professor of Education and Child Development at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education from 1980 to 2006. He authored 200 publications, received the Lindback Award for distinguished teaching in 1975, and was elected to the Reading Hall of Fame in 1996. Dr. Botel served as president of the International Literacy Association from 1959 to 1962 and founded The Penn Literacy Network in 1981.
Lara Botel Paparo serves as Associate Director of the Penn Literacy Network at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. She has provided literacy instruction to teachers for 16 years and taught Social Studies at Penn Manor School District from 2006 to 2015. She holds a Masters degree and Pennsylvania teaching certification in Secondary Education from the University of Pennsylvania.
