Across fourteen weekly chapters and a synthesis chapter, the volume documents the executive actions, agency directives, court rulings, and constitutional confrontations of the period: the use of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deport Venezuelan nationals to a Salvadoran prison while a federal court's restraining order was being entered; the imposition of broad-based tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act; the withholding of billions in federal research funding from Harvard and other universities that resisted administration demands; the executive orders targeting law firms for representing the administration's opponents; the federalization of the California National Guard and the deployment of active-duty Marines to Los Angeles over the governor's objection; the handcuffing of Senator Alex Padilla at a federal press conference; the deportation of a two-year-old U.S. citizen to Honduras; the House passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act on a single-vote margin; the No Kings demonstrations of June 14; and the same-morning assassinations of Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark.
