The strange series of events that unfolds in this little burg over a period of about two years calls into question the notion that rural Americans are less likely to commit crimes and are more patriotic, more neighborly, and more likely to adhere to and abide by Christian morals and values, than folks in the cities.

Kendall Blanchard is an anthropologist and retired university president. He has published many journal articles and eight nonfiction academic books, including his most successful work, The Anthropology of Sport (Greenwood Press,1998). He has also published two novels, Grimshaw's Ghost Dance (American Press, 2006) and The Gift of Tongues Untied (Atmosphere Press, 2024). He currently resides in Lenexa, Kansas, with his wife, Dr. Connie Garcia Blanchard, who is also a writer and retired university professor.
