The Lightning Field - Hardcover

A Journey to the Heart of the Self

When the pattern of a life unravels, an electric awakening begins.

For twenty-eight years, Clair Cassidy McKendrick has lived a "half-life," tucked away in the quiet, insidious fog of the Maine coast and the safe, hollow identity of a lawyer's wife. But the patterns of her carefully ordered existence are about to unravel. On a single "synchronous" day, she learns her son is becoming a father-and her husband is leaving her for a pregnant mistress. An invitation to a fiftieth birthday celebration in the high desert of New Mexico offers a chance for an escape she never knew she needed.

Stripped of her possessions by a twist of fate and thrust into the company of a "pride" of extraordinary women, Clair finds herself at The Lightning Field-a vast land sculpture of four hundred shimmering stainless steel poles. In this desolate, "holy place," where the air is thin and the clouds morph into mythic shapes, Clair undergoes a profound psychological and spiritual striking.

Through the power of sisterhood, the wisdom of the Divine Feminine, and a chance encounter with a kindred spirit who truly sees her, Clair begins to shed her old skin like a desert serpent. A luminous novel about midlife awakening, the healing power of female friendship, and the courage it takes to begin again, The Lightning Field is a story for any woman who has ever wondered if it's too late to reclaim her own life.
