The text is a letter addressed to George, a recluse from the Monastery of Saint Symeon, requesting the documentation of the life and death of Saint George the Hagiorite. It praises George for his ascetic lifestyle, emphasizing his separation from worldly concerns and his deep spiritual insights. The letter reflects on the importance of recording the lives of saints for the edification of future generations and acknowledges the influence of other saints, particularly the great Anthony and Macarius. It also mentions a request for a detailed account of the life and death of Saint George, motivated by the divine inspiration of fellow monks.
