When waking up from a coma to realize he has superpowers and no family to go back to, Tony must rely on his close-knit group of friends to get back on his feet. While still outcasted for his gothic fashion and interest in the macabre, he no longer fears his bully, Johnny, despite having dealt with him for years now. He still fears Veka, though. The cloaked figure with glowing yellow eyes has haunted Tony's sleep nightly since before the coma. But a nightmare is just that. A nightmare. He was safe from the terror Veka wrought in his dreams.

Being invited to join a small group of heroes called Project Barricade, it is up to Tony to decide how to use his newfound abilities as he dons the moniker Persevere. Tony pushes himself to prove that he can make an impact on the crime-ridden city of Old Belmont, but does he belong in this new group of heroes? Does he belong anywhere?

When Tony's best friends are dragged into this new world with him, so is Johnny, who is coming with a grudge to settle. Will Project Barricade be enough to stop the manifestation of Tony's nightmares? Will a hero be enough to save Johnny from his downward spiral into villainy? Where will Persevere draw the line between heroism and wickedness?

Veka is coming, and his sights are set on Persevere.
