In 1843, German immigrant Maximillian Bauer arrives in America and carves a violent path across the frontier, marauding through the countryside until he is ultimately killed by his common-law wife, who fears for her family's safety.

A decade later, his son Boyd-both sociopathic and psychopathic-continues his father's legacy, leaving behind a trail of unsolved deaths as he moves from place to place. Eventually, he arrives in Montevideo, Minnesota, assuming the identity of a Baptist minister.

When Tom Hall is called back to Montevideo, he finds himself drawn into a series of mysterious and unexplained deaths. As he works to uncover the truth behind the killings, he is confronted with a dark legacy of violence spanning generations. Love, lust, and murder intertwine across the rural landscape, and before Tom can solve even a handful of the cases, his own life is placed in grave danger.

Norby, Arthur: - With more than four decades of creating visual and written art, Arthur Norby's The Legacy of Maximillian Bauer-the second of nine Tom Hall mysteries-storms across rural Minnesota on an unpredictable path. His creative education began at the age of three, when he was taught to draw the Gibson Girl fasces and by the age of eleven, he had moved on to sports figures, streamlined cars and airplanes. During his ten-year naval careen, he was a graphic designer and draftsman, published a weekly newspaper with a 300-person readership, and produced graphics and charts for the U.S.Navy Antarctic Expedition. After leaving active service, he spent a decade with a U.S.Naval intelligence group as a photographic interpreter before his retirement. Nine years of entrepreneurship brought him to his career as a sculptor, painter and author. He gained national recognition with more than seven hundred sculptures, including the Minnesota Korean War Veterans Memorial and more than thirty additional public works. Still active as a painter, Norby has been a creative writer since 1978, when he wrote his first collection of poetry. In 1989, he wrote his first of eight mystery novels, THE DEADLY WINTER and has published two autobiographies about his career and his sculpture. He has studied the masters in Italy, Spain, and France and at the age of eighty-eight, teaches workshops in writing, painting, and sculpture while continuing his creative pursuits.
