The Knight Of The Burning Pestle - Paperback

The Knight of the Burning Pestle is a play written by the English playwrights Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher in the early 17th century. The play is a parody of the traditional chivalric romance genre, and follows the story of a young knight named Rafe who is determined to become a hero and win the heart of his lady love. However, the play is interrupted by a group of citizens who have paid for the right to insert their own story into the play, featuring their own hero, the grocer's apprentice, who is armed with a burning pestle. The play then becomes a hilarious and chaotic mix of the two stories as they compete for attention on stage. The Knight of the Burning Pestle is a witty and irreverent satire of the conventions of the theatre and the romantic ideals of the time, and is still performed today as a classic of English theatre. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
