When the young Nedrall Nutcracker, son of the war-hero Navid Nutcracker, stumbles upon an ambush of the Gargoyle Army, led by the power-hungry King Khelbent, Nedrall's destiny is forever changed. The standoff between him, a gargoyle, and a magical spirit leaves Ned determined to join the military under his father and fight to defeat King Khelbent.

But being a soldier isn't as cut and dry as Ned expected. When everyone knows who you are, friends- and enemies- are inevitable. And when everyone knows who your father is, so are the expectations.

But as Ned and his team navigate the generation-long war, Ned discovers secrets kept from him by the military leadership and even by his own father.
