The First Epistle of Peter presents a pastoral and exhortative letter of the New Testament in the enduring language of the King James Version.
Traditionally attributed to the Apostle Peter, this epistle addresses early Christian communities experiencing marginalisation and hostility within the Roman world. It calls believers to perseverance under trial, urging steadfast faith, moral integrity, and humility amid suffering. Rather than encouraging withdrawal, the letter counsels honourable conduct within existing civic structures, emphasising that fidelity to Christ is compatible with responsible participation in society.
Themes of endurance, holiness, and hope shape the text throughout. Suffering is neither denied nor romanticised; it is framed within the larger pattern of Christ's own example and the promise of eventual restoration. The epistle balances exhortation with reassurance, directing its readers toward patience, charity, and disciplined faith.
Presented here as a standalone volume in the measured and resonant prose of the 1611 King James translation, this edition preserves a work that has long informed Christian reflection on persecution, obedience, and spiritual resilience.
