Nomura, Kiwao: - Kiwao Nomura (1951-) is the leading experimental voice in contemporary Japanese poetry. He is also a major critic and theorist, who, along with Shuri Kido, has been responsible for providing a whole new interpretation of Japan's postwar period in literature. He has also written on French poets, including a book-length analysis of Rimbaud as seen through the concepts of Deleuze and Guattari. He has published twenty-six volumes of verse since 1987 and translated the complete poems of René Char into Japanese. In September 2020 the Japan Poets Association awarded him their 38th Modern Poetry Prize for his 2019 volume Twilight Saudade.Eric, Selland: - Eric Selland has been translating Modernist and contemporary Japanese poets for nearly forty years, with works appearing in a variety of journals and anthologies. He has also published articles on Japanese Modernist poetry and translation theory. His latest collection of poems is Object States (Theenk Books, 2018). Other recent books are Arc Tangent (Isobar Press, 2013), and Beethoven's Dream (Isobar Press, 2015). Eric has also translated a number of contemporary novels, including The Guest Cat, by Takashi Hiraide, published by New Directions in the US and Picador in the UK, which was on both the New York Times and the UK Sunday Times bestseller lists in 2014. Eric lives in Tokyo with his wife and a black Shiba Inu named Ku.
